The creation of fantasy animals has always been of great interest to me whether they live in fairy tales, well known children’s books, mythology, or the walls of museums. Some of my favorite illustrators of fantasy animals are Eric Carle, Dennis Pearson, the D’Aulaires, and Ukrainian folk artist Maria Priymachenko. Nothing is more fun than taking an animal and giving it a new dimension, a new sound, a new color, a new name.
